Breathtaking snowshoes hike to Feichteck

Few days ago we went for a snowshoes hike to Feichteck, a 1514 m high summit not very far away from us.

After missing the parking place once and then having a bit of adventurous ride on a road where no winter service is done, we finally arrived at a parking place (not exactly the one we wanted, but very close to it). With the nerves a bit on edge we were glad to calm down in the silence of the nature.

It was the first snowshoes hike of the season and the first time we carried Thomas in the child carrier (Kraxe :D). He loved being able to observe everything from the top and was all smiles the entire time (except when he was sleeping).

Everyone knows that in winter it might be pretty cold for the children in the carrier, since they don’t move. Therefore I googled a bit if there is something like a cover for the child carrier and I found by chance a post from adailytravelmate where Steffi was describing exactly what I was looking for: a cover for the carrier. Yaaaay! I ordered it almost immediately on the www.jennbag.de. The person who produces it is Nicole, also a sporty mother who likes to be as much as possible outside with her kids without having to be concerned about the weather. There is no bad weather, only bad clothing :D.

I didn’t know how warm it is inside therefore Thomas wore the snowsuit and just to be sure I put also the hand warming pads at his legs. So he was definitely warm during the 3 hours hike. Steffi from adailytravelmate tested the cover with a termal camera, and at -3 degrees outside the temperature inside the cover was 17 degrees. HINT from me: hand warming pads are perfect for kids and keep their hands and legs warm. We never go hiking in winter without them. I bought them not only for Thomas, but also for me since my hands freeze very quickly.

Now back to our hike :). We reached the summit at the sunset and went down with the headlamps in the darkness. The scenery was breathtaking. The photos talk from themselves and I hope they convince you to try the route.

There are more routes to Feichteck, but the one we did is easier in winter and just breathtaking. Only finding the parking place might be a bit tricky.
